About

In Niki Brown's artistic journey, she extends an invitation to befriend the breath, infuse life with creativity, and witness the transformation of the ephemeral nature of feelings & memory into tangible artwork. Her inspiration stems from Kintsugi, the art of mending with gold, symbolizing the beauty in embracing all the banished or broken parts of ourselves. She believes there is healing within the creative act.

As a yoga instructor and multi-disciplinary artist, Niki's work manifests as a contemplative practice that encapsulates her lived experience thus far. Within each piece, observers discover elements reflecting her passions, the complexity of emotions, and the exploration of what matters most. Drawing from 20 years of both dance and yoga movement practice, Niki skillfully blends the fluidity of these disciplines with the mindfulness and stillness of meditation.

The round, portal shape serves as Niki's signature canvas—a representation of wholeness, sensuality, and unity found in nature, spanning from the celestial sphere to the curvature of our home planet. This shape embodies oneness and articulates the paradox of fluidity and tension alive in each piece.

In the exploration of Niki's art, echoes resound from her love for language, the human body, flowers, space, colour, and the constant tension with the unknown. Her art mirrors the journey through life, capturing the essence of the lived experience and warmly inviting observers to join her in this contemplative, transformative space.

Niki Brown acknowledges that her art and yoga practice take place on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations
